a set of excellent clippers.
and a pair of sissors.

the ones utilized for humans will perform on cockers simply because their hair is pretty close into people hair.

i would also recomend oatmeal canine shampoo since the small mudballs get into nearly every small thing dirty & messy they can feel of.
and the oatmeal shampoo doesnt dry out their skin as significantly as the other stuff.

There are plenty of wonderful tools that you can use for your cocker. I would suggest a slicker brush, which looks like a regular hairbrush only the bristles look like lots of tiny little pins or wires and do not have nubs on them. The second thing you might look into is a Furminator, which is essentially a clipper blade that has been fastened to a handle and looks like a fine-toothed comb; this helps with shedding. One more thing, there is a tool that looks very similar to a Furminator only instead of a clipper blade/comb, it is a comb with longer “teeth” and those teeth appear be kinda wavy and somewhat sharp; this tool is great for breaking those little mats that form on the ears. Make sure you are also keeping those ears clean and dry as cockers are prone to ear infections. Use a cotton ball and some ear cleaning solution to remove wax and dirt once a week or at least every other week.

Here is a good guide to cocker spaniel grooming supplies:

    http://www.camelotcockers.com/tools.html
    http://www.petgroomer.com/Grooming101/Breeds/cocker_spaniel.htm

It is a huge list of supplies, but you could hunt through for the basics. I highly recommend the Andis clippers. Oster makes great clippers as well.

I’ve used this web vendor for dog grooming supplies and can recommend this company–PetEdge.

Note: one of the links takes you to a cocker breeder. I have not idea if this is a reputable breeder–I did think the grooming tools list was quite complete. Of course all this information applies to a pet cocker spaniel, not a cocker needing a confirmation showring grooming.
