Question by Mary R: Siberian husky grooming tools question.?
I adopted a wonderful Siberian husky back in March and I adore him despite the major shedding issue. I did my research and was aware of what I was getting into and wouldn’t change my decision if given the chance. He’s just such a great dog…there isn’t enough space here into descibe his great qualities. But on into my question, I comb him and also use a deshedding tool on him outside daily as well as vacuum my home up into twice daily (he’s an indoor dog, though we spend a lot of time outside together). His shedding is never ending or so it seams. My question is whether all out there knows of any grooming tools that might make life a bit easier for me in terms of time that I have into spend on his grooming? I use a comb instead of a brush because I get a lot more hair with the comb and it’s quite easy because he seems into love getting combed. My shedding tool looks just like the type used on horses and it certainly seems into do a good job. But I am wondering if there are any new grooming tools that I am never aware of. Ones that work well for huskies? Or maybe there are other things I can do? I’ve thought about buying food for him that claim into help shedding but I am doubting that they actually work. Any recommendations for me would be welcomed.

Check out the Furminator, they are kind of pricey but work great on getting the undercoat out.
Also try suplementing with fish oil and make sure you are feeding good quality grain free kibble or raw diet.

Undercoat rakes work well with this breed,
Also many people are talking about the “furminator” I don’t know about it cause I’ve never tried it.

I don’t think that any of the foods that supposedly stop shedding work. They are made for dogs that are losing excessive amounts of hair for no reason. Your husky is losing hair because he’s a double coated breed.
He should only shed once a year, and to hasten the process, you should bathe him & comb him out with a shedding rake. You can find them at http://www.jefferspet.com or http://www.jbpet.com.
If you bathe him & brush him as often as possible (weekly) while he is shedding, it will hasten the process & get all of the dead hair off of him quicker.
I have ten Collies & when they shed, I just bathe & brush them as much as possible until all of the loose hair is done.
It takes about 6 weeks for the shedding process to be complete if you do it this way.

my husky has been shedding non stop this summer and usuerally its only in the spring and fall.i too vacum and clean hair all over the place several times a day. i brush and groom him with the same things u use and i still can grab handfulls and clumps out. u might try using ur vacum with the little comb on the hose and try sucking up the fur all over him especilly around the neck, tail and hind end and i wet my hands a lot while rubbing him down along with the furniture and rugs, wet hands are pretty amazing at times lol.u can give him 1 tsp of olive oil or a fish capsule a day and it will help keep his skin from becomeing dry and flakey.with these breeds they loose so much fur that there really isn’t much u can do but groom and clean it up. good luck
