Hi Fellow groomers.. I would like to know what blade # you prefer on the face. I groom for a vet hospital and do a lot of grooming mainly on the fuzzies that are too old or grumpy to go to a lovely salon.. I like a #15 (don’t worry I am careful! rarely nick a dog if ever) Just interested in picking up tips to have a happier pet and clientele!

Excellent! I bought a clipper but it didn’t come with a DVD like I thought and I was having a little trouble understanding the instructions. Thank you for clarifying!

why would u make a dog look so ugly…. leave the fur on
August 31st, 2010 at 10:44 pm
The only way you get clipper burn, is if the blade gets to hot. You need to use cool lube or have extra blades if this happens during a groom. If the blade is dull you run the risk of nicking the dog. You go against the grain for clean faces–for a sharp look– UNLESS the dog has sensitive skin. When they have sensitive skin you go with the grain. Poodles did have those “frufru” cuts for a reason–the pom poms lol–. They where used for hunting and it was thought the haircut protect major organs

I own two standards. Both are “pets” and neither one looks like that — they just look like normal dogs.
August 31st, 2010 at 10:56 pm
its not about looks.. those frufru cuts are for looks.. thats the ‘pet cut’ and old dogs and just pets get that cuz its the most comfortable for the dog as too much fur can make them overheat and too little exposes their skin to the elements. dumbass

Hey um, i got a female Shih Tzu yesterday and shes 9 weeks old. I’ve noticed that when she walks, she dosn’t walk as straight as i seen other dogs walk. She walks a bit side ways and then she shifts position. I was wondering if thats normal because this is my first pet ever, and yeah im kinda paranoid lol. Thanx!

@sydco10 its called a dialect
September 1st, 2010 at 3:31 am
The correct pronunciation is Shee-zoo. Not Shit-zoo.
September 1st, 2010 at 4:09 am
Please check how you pronounce the name of this breed, really the T is silent. Just for the record dogs donot have arm pits- they have 4 legs!

ya dont cut their eye because there sensitive
September 1st, 2010 at 5:44 am
Very nice! TY.
September 1st, 2010 at 6:38 am
Kudos to handling that matted shih tzu!
September 1st, 2010 at 7:35 am
Don’t use a 40 blade, they are too sharp for sensitive eyes, not that that Bimbo would care! But eyes get infections and fine cuts from a 40 blade. use a no 10 or 15, that is close enough! No sore eyes! There is no way I would ever bring my dog to this woman, no way!!!
September 1st, 2010 at 7:38 am
Thanks for giving the blade # for between the eyes. I groom mine myself and always attempt in between the eyes with a blunt scissors, but I am always afraid they will jerk and get poked.

Recently I’ve been getting a lot of people coming to me with there Shih Tzus that are completely matted and bad coat condition. One time it took me 5 hours to groom one dog that was so matted and smelly it looked like he had never been groomed or bathed in his life! I made him look fabulous of course
