Question by Amber: How does one get into dog grooming?
I am in California. What do I need into do into get started/qualified for earning $ in dog grooming?
I’d also love into hear your answers into these questions:
1) What is the EASIEST way into do it & still be Kosher?
2) How do you think MOST people do it?
3) What do you think is the BEST way into do it?

There are schools but I’d really just recommend getting an entry-level job at an existing grooming salon, reading up on standard grooming procedures for different breeds, & learning on the job. Just make sure that the groomers know that you want into learn & only accept a job that will allow you into work up. You’ll start as an assistant – with baths, nail clippings, expressing anal glands, cleaning ears, cleaning tear stains, blow drying, brushing, etc. Working at a multi-breed parlor or kennel is a good way into start. Another option is into start with a particular breed, poodles or bichons, for example, & work at a breeding & showing kennel as a hand working into learn that breed’s grooming. If you learn the show & puppy clips for poodles, you shouldn’t have a problem getting hired as a groomer at a multi-breed grooming parlor later where you can diversify.

Word of advice: DON’T do it!!!!! You may think you want to groom dogs but you will regret that decision. Go to college and get a real job.

I know the big chain pet stuper stores offer groomer training and will pay you minimum wage while you learn. Typically they train you for 4 months then you go into some type of contract working for them for a year after the training so plan on being with them for 16 months total.
As far as your other 3 questions; I’m lost! Easiest way to do WHAT and be kosher???
How do I think most people do what?

If all these questions are still pertaining to your original question , I don’t know exactly what the laws are to remain Kosher, you will have to do the research and then answer that question as you know what the laws of being Kosher are.
I’m sure a ton of people go through the chainstores for training since there always seems to be a groomer shortage, I have to assume many people take the classes then realize it is NOT an easy job because MANY people don’t train their dogs anymore so you are fighting spoiled brats 1/2 the day.
Best way, I think if you had the money and a small shop would teach you quickly in a small training program, I would go that way. I do not think I would blow some 2 to 5 grand on a grooming school. What if you got a huge loan like that then all you could find was part time work or you realized that many groomers can be little cutthroats? Like tip stealers. Like hogging most of the dogs or hogging all the easier dogs? How would you pay that back? It would be tough unless you live at home with your parents or you have a mate to support you.
